HIVE IDENTIFICATION TAGGING SYSTEM (HITS)

The present invention relates to hive tracing and database, more particularly to a method to name and identify the hive or log for the trace and the whole process of the honey traceability system

Declining activities of stingless bee cultivation have been previously reported in Mexico due to environmental changes and improper management, including overharvesting, unsuccessful hiving, and colony duplication failures. Several additional constraints encountered in meliponiculture restrict the practice, including the hot tropical climate and obstacles during harvest.

Besides, it needs immediate action to transform the industry, especially for good cultivation practices, ensuring the excellent honey quality and hygienic post-harvesting management as well as innovation in honey markets.

So, it is crucial to provide a system that gives identifications and specific information of the colony and became a database of available hives and honey output in the country.

The first step towards this is to give specific identification to each hive or nest and as disclosed here as Hive Identification Tagging System (HITS) and data retrieval using QR code. The Application is downloadable at Google Play.

HIVE IDENTIFICATION  TAGGING SYSTEM (HITS)

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for identification of hive or nest design for stingless beekeeping, but not limited to it. The identification is generated thru smartphone applications downloadable to users’ smartphone. The identification is then converted into QR (Quick Response) code that is printable using a portable-bluetooth-connected printer. Printed QR code is then placed onto the hive. Applicant’s smartphone application generates a unique QR code that contains a unique identifier (i.e., state, species, owner, colony phenotype of the hive). The hive data could be retrieved by QR code scanning on a smartphone or using a computer via network. The invention is used in beekeeping and gives traceability on the colony as well as the honey output.
